  • “Website” refers to the interconnected web pages and multimedia content available at www.wehoufi.com.
  • “Platform” denotes the broader digital publishing project represented by the Website.
  • “House on Fire” is the brand name and editorial identity of the Platform.

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using this Website, you confirm that you have read, understood and agreed to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you should not use the Website.

Your use of the Website and content made available through it is entirely at your own risk.

User Responsibilities

By using this Website, you agree that you will not:

  • engage in any unlawful, offensive, harmful, or misleading activities;
  • impersonate any individual or legal entity, or otherwise misrepresent your identity or affiliation;
  • submit, post, or use content for which you do not hold necessary rights or permissions (including, but not limited to, copyright, related rights, trademarks, trade secrets, or similar intellectual property rights);
  • use the Website to send unsolicited communications, promotional material, bulk emails, or any form of spam;
  • submit or share content that is discriminatory, violent, pornographic, or that infringes upon the rights of others;
  • collect, store, or process personal data of other users without their explicit consent or in breach of applicable data protection law;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Website, interfere with its functionality, or misuse its technical infrastructure in any way;
  • use the website in a manner that may compromise the security, stability, or integrity of the platform, its systems, or other users.

Any failure to comply with these obligations may result in the suspension or permanent termination of your access to the Website. Where appropriate, legal action may also be taken.

Copyright and Use of Content

All logos, submarks, graphic elements, original texts, cover images and other content published on the Website are protected by copyright and related rights under the applicable laws of the Republic of Serbia.

The Website Owner retains full ownership of all such content and does not grant users any rights beyond a limited, non-exclusive right to access and use the content in accordance with these Terms of Use.

Users may, for strictly non-commercial purposes and provided the content remains unaltered, store the URL, read the content, share it on social media platforms, forward it privately, or use it for educational purposes — ideally with appropriate credit. “Non-commercial purposes” refers to uses that do not generate any direct or indirect financial gain.

Any reproduction, redistribution, adaptation, or commercial exploitation of content is strictly prohibited without the prior written consent of the author or the Website Owner. In all cases, appropriate attribution must be provided, including a hyperlink to the original article or the homepage of the Website.

Quotations or excerpts by traditional or digital media, institutions, organisations, or other legal entities are permitted only if clearly and visibly attributed, including a hyperlink to the original article or the homepage, wherever technically feasible.

Works Created under Agreement or Collaboration with Authors

By submitting a work for publication, you confirm that you are the rightful author or copyright holder and that the submitted material does not infringe any applicable laws or third-party rights.

Where a work is submitted under a written agreement or authorship contract, the Author retains full copyright over the submitted content. However, by entering into such an agreement, the Author grants the House on Fire platform a licence to use the work in accordance with these Terms of Use.

All such works, consents, and agreements must be submitted to the following address for internal records and processing: wearehoufi@gmail.com

Scope of Rights Granted:

The rights of use granted to the platform are:

  • non-exclusive (the Author may use the work elsewhere),
  • perpetual (not time-limited),
  • worldwide (not restricted by territory), and
  • royalty-free, unless otherwise stipulated in writing.

These rights include, but are not limited to, the right to:

  • publish, display, distribute, and archive the work on the House on Fire website and official social media accounts (@wearehoufi);
  • include the work in newsletters, editorial digests, or promotional material, in line with the platform’s editorial objectives.

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, once published, the Author cannot withdraw the granted rights of public display, except in cases involving a breach of contract or violation of law.

Editorial Rights and Responsibilities:

By submitting a work under agreement, you grant the Editor-in-Chief the right to:

  • perform proofreading and copy-editing, and make stylistic or linguistic improvements, while preserving the Author’s moral rights and the integrity of the work;
  • determine the title and subtitle for publication on the platform;
  • schedule the publication date at their discretion;
  • include the Author’s name or pseudonym, brief biography, and contact details (with prior consent);
  • publish the work with a custom-made cover image that aligns with the platform’s visual concept;
  • withhold or remove the work from publication without obligation to provide justification.

The Website Owner retains full rights over original content they have created or lawfully obtained through explicit agreement with contributing Authors.

No intellectual property rights are transferred to users of the Website. Users are granted only a limited right of access and use, strictly in accordance with these Terms of Use.

Legal Responsibility:

The Website Owner accepts no liability for any contractual, financial, or legal obligations the Author may have with third parties in connection with the submitted work. Authors remain solely responsible for ensuring that their work does not conflict with any external commitments or obligations.

All works published under agreement are considered original contributions and reflect the personal views of the Author. The Website Owner does not guarantee the factual accuracy, completeness, or legality of the content and shall not be held liable for any resulting damages or misinterpretation

User Submissions – “You Write” Section

By submitting a work to the “You Write” section, you confirm that you are the original author or lawful rights holder and that the submitted material does not infringe any applicable laws or third-party rights.

All submissions, along with any accompanying consents or declarations, must be sent to wearehoufi@gmail.com for proper documentation and processing by the Editor-in-Chief.

Copyright and Rights of Use:

Copyright in the submitted work remains with the Author. However, by voluntarily submitting your work and providing consent, you grant the Website Owner a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free licence to:

  • publish the work in full on the House on Fire website;
  • share excerpts on official House on Fire social media accounts (@wearehoufi);
  • archive and make the work publicly accessible in accordance with the platform’s editorial policy.

This licence does not prevent the Author from publishing or using the work elsewhere, including on other platforms or in other media.

Once published, the Author understands and agrees that the work cannot be withdrawn or unpublished, except in cases of legal infringement or violation of the Author’s rights as agreed with the platform.

Editorial Rights:

By submitting your work, you grant the Editor-in-Chief the right to:

  • assess the work for clarity, structure, and completeness, and suggest editorial amendments where appropriate;
  • perform proofreading and copy-editing for spelling, grammar, style, tone, and formatting, while respecting the Author’s moral right to integrity;
  • determine the title and subtitle for publication in line with editorial practices and the nature of the content;
  • choose the timing of publication without prior notice;
  • publish your name or pseudonym, together with a brief biography and any contact details you provide, subject to your consent;
  • publish the work with a cover image created by the platform, aligned with its creative direction;
  • decline to publish or remove the work at any time, without the obligation to provide a reason.

You may withdraw your submission at any point before publication by notifying us via email. In such cases, the platform will not use or publish the work without your renewed, explicit consent.

Author Responsibilities and Liability:

The Website Owner assumes no responsibility for any rights, obligations, or disputes arising from third-party arrangements that the Author may have concerning the same work.

By submitting your work, you confirm that:

  • you are solely responsible for any external contractual or legal obligations connected to the submission;
  • the Website Owner will not be held liable for any consequences arising from third-party claims related to your work.

All works published in the “You Write” section are considered original contributions and reflect the personal views of the respective Authors. The Website Owner does not guarantee the factual accuracy, legal soundness, or completeness of such content and disclaims liability for any consequences arising from its use.

In the event of withdrawal of consent after publication, the platform’s rights to any future use of the work will cease, except for archiving content that has already been made public.

External Content and Links

The section “House Selection: Europe’s Must-Read Stories” features editorially curated recommendations of content originally published by third-party media outlets and digital platforms. By including these links, House on Fire acknowledges and respects the creative work and intellectual property of the original authors and publishers, without any intention to infringe their rights or interests.

By clicking on such links, users are redirected to external websites. The Website Owner does not control and cannot be held responsible for the content, availability, accuracy, or legality of any third-party material. All intellectual property rights in such external content remain the sole property of the respective rights holders.

To ensure clarity and transparency, official logos or brand identifiers of external media or platforms may be displayed within this section. These are shown solely for the purpose of source identification and do not imply endorsement, partnership, sponsorship, or affiliation with House on Fire.

Any accompanying visual elements displayed on our website in this context (e.g. preview images or thumbnails) are independently created by House on Fire and are not part of the original external content to which the links lead.

If you believe that your content, name, or logo appears in this section in a way that infringes your rights or misrepresents your work, please contact us at hey@wehoufi.com. We will review the matter promptly and remove the content if appropriate.

Partners and Sponsored Content

To support the operation and continued development of the House on Fire platform, we may engage in partnerships with donors, sponsors, and other collaborators. Any form of sponsored or commercially supported content will be clearly marked and distinguished from independent editorial content, ensuring full transparency for our users.

All partners and sponsors are expected to adhere to principles of transparency, accuracy, and user protection. These collaborations are conducted in compliance with all applicable laws, professional standards, and ethical guidelines.

In the course of such relationships, we may provide partners, donors, or sponsors with aggregated, anonymised, and statistical information. We do not share users’ personal data unless we have obtained explicit consent or are legally required to do so.

Sponsored content does not influence our editorial independence. House on Fire retains full control over its content and reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to reject or remove any sponsored material that is inconsistent with the platform’s editorial values, mission, or applicable law. This may be done without prior notice and without obligation to provide justification.

The Website Owner accepts no responsibility for the accuracy, completeness, or legality of any information provided by partners, donors, or sponsors in connection with sponsored content.

All data provided during the donation process (including payment card information, account details, and transaction records) is processed solely by PayPal and is governed by its own Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. The Website Owner does not collect, access, or process this information in any form.

Donations are entirely voluntary, final and non-refundable, and do not establish any legal, financial, or contractual relationship between the donor and the platform. Making a donation does not confer any editorial, operational, or decision-making rights regarding the platform, nor does it create any entitlement to services or benefits.

For further details on how we handle personal data in the context of donations, please refer to our Privacy Policy.
